Join Our Cut‑A‑Thon for Veterans Moving Forward

Think a haircut is just a haircut? At Holistic Hair Studio, we believe every snip can serve a bigger purpose. On Saturday, May 2nd, from 10 AM to 2 PM, we’re opening our chairs for our 4th Annual Cut‑A‑Thon to raise funds for Veterans Moving Forward (VMF), a Virginia‑based nonprofit that places trained service dogs with veterans – all at no cost to the veteran.

Every dollar we collect that day goes directly to feeding, training, and placing these life‑changing service dogs. Come get a fresh cut, enjoy the feel‑good vibe of doing good, and help one more veteran find a faithful four‑legged partner.

What Veterans Moving Forward Does

VMF is a 501(c)(3) headquartered in Dulles, Virginia. Their mission is simple but profound: provide service dogs, therapy dogs, and emotional support dogs to veterans with physical or mental health challenges, at absolutely no cost to the veteran or their family.

These dogs are trained to assist with everything from opening doors and picking up dropped items to recognizing signs of anxiety and interrupting nightmare episodes. They give veterans something that medicine alone can’t always provide: a loyal, loving companion who is always on their side.

When a veteran receives a trained service dog, they’re not just getting an animal. They’re gaining a partner who helps them regain confidence, independence, and the courage to face the world. That’s what we’re raising money for, one haircut at a time.

All the Details – How You Can Take Part

When: Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 • 10 AM – 2 PM
Where: Holistic Hair Studio, 1433 Powhatan Street, Alexandria, VA 22314
What: Walk‑in haircuts (adults & children), styling, and on‑the‑spot blow‑dries – all for a donation that goes straight to VMF.

No appointment necessary. Just show up, make a donation, and leave feeling sharp and proud.

Last year, with only 14 participants and a small crowd of supporters, we raised nearly $1,000. This year we want to do even more. With your help, we can cover far more of the ongoing costs VMF faces training and matchmaking service dogs for veterans in our own backyard.

Wear Your Support - Literally

Alongside the Cut‑A‑Thon, we’ll have a table of Veterans Moving Forward merchandise. You can buy T‑shirts, hats, mugs, and accessories to wear your support long after the event ends. All proceeds from merchandise sales go directly to VMF.

It’s a simple way to keep the conversation going, spark awareness, and show visiting veterans that our community has their backs.

Who’s Behind the Chairs?

Our own stylists are donating their time and talent for the entire four hours. Every haircut you receive is a gift from them, and every dollar you leave is a gift to a veteran in need. That same generous spirit extends to our volunteers. Last year we had support from local photographer Lucia Smith Art, who documented the event, Amy Hadar Beauty, and LJ from Cook For Vets, who helped make the day run smoothly.

This year, we’d love to see even more smiling faces in and around the studio. Even if you don’t need a trim, stop by to buy a T‑shirt, grab a mug, and cheer on your neighbors. Every person who shows up makes a difference.

This Cut‑A‑Thon is one of our favorite events of the year because it turns something ordinary – a haircut – into something extraordinary: a lifeline for a local veteran.
